History of the Firm

The background of TRG Accountants’ lies in a firm established by Colin Prowse & John Cook in the mid 1970’s.
The firm, initially known as Prowse, Cook and Perrin, evolved into Prowse, Perrin and Twomey.
It relocated from its Lydiard St Address in 2012, and rebranded as TRG Accountants at 1220 Sturt St, Ballarat –with John Twomey and Patrick Ryan as directors.
Although the 1970’s firm was known for investment advice (the original four partners were all members of the Stock Exchange Ballarat Ltd) the current firm now specialises in Small Business Advice and Compliance, Succession and Estate Planning, Superannuation Administration and has recently added a Financial Planning Division.

The firm services a wide range of clients across the region – Primary Producers, Builders and Associated Trades, Transport Operators, Medical and Allied Health Practitioners, Restaurants, Hoteliers and Cafes, Property Developers and Professional Service Providers.
We employ local people and we are proud of our many and varied community involvements which include: Run Ballarat, Centacare Ballarat, United Way and the Ballarat Foundation, Central Highlands Football League, Ballarat Fine Art Gallery, Churches, Sporting Clubs, and most recently, The Ballarat Writers Festival.

Patrick Ryan

Patrick Ryan

A connection to the countryside is at the heart of Patrick Ryan’s friendly persona.

Born and raised on a farm at Waubra, and schooled in a tight-knit community – people have always been a central part of Patrick's work and home life.

A couple of seasons shearing and also working on farms in Victoria, News South Wales and South Australia, gave “Paddy” a thirst to study at Longerenong Agricultural College, obtaining an Associate Diploma in Applied Science Agriculture. From there, his attention turned to a Bachelor of Commerce at Ballarat University.

It was in 1997 his accounting career began.
“During my accounting and business advisory career I have obtained further qualifications including; becoming a Certified Practising Account (CPA) a Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) and my Diploma in Financial Planning (Dip FP) which complements my experience in business and tax advisory."
A momentous change happened in 2011 – when Paddy became a partner of what is now operating as TRG Accountants – Twomey Ryan Group.

Outside of numbers, Paddy’s greatest loves are his wife and four children.
“Family pursuits are ever-present, and this combined with activity on our small farm we live on, keeps one active and feeling alive.”
