History of the Firm
The background of TRG Accountants lies in a firm established by Colin Prowse and John Cook in the mid 1970’s.
The firm, initially known as Prowse, Cook and Perrin, evolved into Prowse, Perrin and Twomey. It relocated from its Lydiard Street address in 2012, and rebranded as TRG Accountants at 1220 Sturt Street, Ballarat.
Although the 1970’s firm was known for investment advice (the original four partners were all members of the Stock Exchange Ballarat Ltd) the current firm now specialises in Small Business Advice and Compliance, Succession and Estate Planning, Superannuation Administration and a Financial Planning Division.
The firm services a wide range of clients across the region – Primary Producers, Builders and Associated Trades, Transport Operators, Medical and Allied Health Practitioners, Restaurants, Hoteliers and Cafes, Property Developers and Professional Service Providers.
We employ local people and we are proud of our many and varied community involvements which include: Walking off The War Within, Centacare Ballarat, United Way and the Ballarat Foundation and Ballarat Fine Art Gallery.
John Twomey
Director/Principal
John was educated at St Patrick College, and gained his degree through the Ballarat University (Now Federation University).
Having been previously employed in a wide range of industries, John joined the firm of Prowse, Cook and Perrin in 1981.
He was a partner in the firm, subsequently renamed Prowse, Perrin and Twomey, from 1983 until 2012 at which time the firm was rebranded as TRG Accountants and moved to 1220 Sturt St Ballarat.
He is a Fellow of CPA Australia and is a Chartered Tax Advisor with the Taxation Institute.
He has also served two terms as Chair of the Ballarat Branch of CPA Australia.
Through his extensive experience in Public Practice, John enjoys helping clients with Succession and Estate Planning and the provision of general business advice.
He also serves on a number of Management and Finance Committee for clients and not-for-profit organizations.
